Your chats stay on your PC
Bakwa keeps your contacts, chats and messages in a database on your own computer. We do not read your chats. For features you switch on — online backup, team logins, the API, Enterprise hosting — the data needed for that feature passes through our servers in encrypted form.
What we store
Account details (name, mobile, email, password hash), your plan and billing status (billing is handled by PayPal; we do not store card numbers), and basic technical logs to run the service. Online backups (Business) are encrypted.
Shared capacity
To offer the app free or at low cost, Bakwa may use a small, capped share of your device's spare capacity and internet for encrypted background tasks that keep the service running for you and other users. These tasks never expose your identity to other users or show you any other user's data. You can switch this off, and switch off start-with-your-PC, in Settings at any time — your plan and price do not change.
Your choices
You can export or delete your data, turn off shared capacity and auto-start, and close your account. After cancellation your data is kept for 90 days and an online backup can be downloaded for 30 days, then removed.
